Holding documents and records dating back to the time of Queen Elizabeth I up to the present day, the Gibraltar National Archive has many fascinating stories to tell. From the Great Siege to the evacuation of the Rock’s civilian population during World War II to the inquest held after the discovery of the Marie Celeste and the evidence heard at the Supreme Court after the shooting in Gibraltar of three IRA members in 1988, there are so many pivotal events which are recorded there. In this episode of Gibraltar Stories, I visited Gibraltar’s National Archivist Anthony Pitaluga, and asked him to tell me about some of the things stored in the archives.
